Die 19-Jährige Vee Nguyen aus dem US-Bundesstaat Michigan ahnte wohl, dass es für ihren Freund Ben Davis schwer werden könnte, einen Prom-Partner zu finden. Also machte sie ihm kurzerhand einen Antrag. Das Video hat sich zu einem Internet-Hit entwickelt – denn die Umstände waren alles andere als normal.

Ben Davis ist geistig behindert und sitzt im Rollstuhl. In dem Video wird der 16-Jährige bei einer Schulversammlung in der Stadt Lansing in die Mitte der Turnhalle geschoben, wo Mitschüler eine Geschenkbox für ihn öffnen. “Ich frage Dich nach einem Date, wenn Schweine fliegen”, steht darauf. Zwei Schüler öffnen die Box – und heraus fliegen vier rosa Luftballons in Schweineform. Ben Davis strahlt übers ganze Gesicht. Die Mitschüler in der Turnhalle toben vor Begeisterung, als er “Ja” sagt.

Nguyen hatte das Video am Freitag bei Facebook hochgeladen, seitdem wurde es mehr als drei Millionen Mal angesehen. “Ich habe Ben vor zwei Jahren kennengelernt, und seitdem sind wir gute Freunde. Er ist so eine liebe Person mit einem guten Herzen und es ist für mich eine Ehre, ihm den Antrag gemacht zu haben”, schrieb sie dazu.
